Privacy policy
This policy explains what information Departmentofinternetsecurity ("we", "us") collects when you use departmentofinternetsecurity.org, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We try to collect as little as possible, which feels only fair for a site about online privacy.
Information we collect
Information you give us. If you use our contact form, we receive your name, email address, subject and message. If you sign up for our email list, the details you enter go to our newsletter form provider.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our server and service providers log technical details such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, referring page and the date and time of your visit. We use this to keep the site running, understand which articles help people, and protect against abuse.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We use them for basic site operation, analytics and advertising. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them, though some ads and measurement may not.
Google Analytics
We may use Google Analytics 4 to understand how readers use the site, such as which pages are read and how people arrive. Google processes this data under its own privacy terms. You can opt out using Google's browser add-on or by blocking analytics cookies.
Advertising through Revive Adserver
Ads on this site are delivered through Revive Adserver. The ad server may set cookies or read device information to deliver ads, limit how often you see the same ad and measure performance. Legal pages on this site do not carry ads.
Newsletter form provider
Our email signup form is hosted by a third-party form and CRM provider (Sphere CRM). When you subscribe, the details you enter are processed by that provider so we can send you emails. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
Headlines and links to other sites
We show headlines from other publishers and link to many outside sites, including government and regulator pages. When you click through, you leave our site and that site's own privacy policy applies. We fetch headlines on our own server, so simply viewing our pages doesn't send your details to those publishers.
How we use information
We use information to run and secure the site, answer your messages, send newsletters you asked for, understand what content is useful and deliver advertising. We do not sell your personal information for money, and we never publish readers' personal details.
How long we keep it
We keep contact messages only as long as needed to respond and keep reasonable records. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information, and to object to or limit certain processing.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): you can ask what personal information we collect, request deletion, and opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
UK and EU residents (GDPR): we rely on legitimate interests to run and secure the site, consent for non-essential cookies where required, and your request when you contact us or subscribe. You may complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
This site is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
